Department 4 is responsible for the Bremen regional innovation strategy for smart specialization (RIS3), for the industrial policy and digitalization of the regional economy with a strong focus on small- and medium-sized enterprises.
The operative economic development supports clusters and networks, manages financial instruments and projects funded through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) https://www.efre-bremen.de/start-3339, facilitates technology transfer between research institutions and companies and supports business start-ups https://www.starthaus-bremen.de/
The activities especially strengthen the Bremen key sectors automotive, maritime technologies, logistics, aerospace, wind energy as well as food and beverage. Innovation support concentrates on key enabling technologies such as e.g. additive manufacturing/3D-printing and artificial intelligence/robotics.
