The Senator for Economic Affairs, Ports and Transformation has a wide range of responsibilities. Some of these relate to the office’s role as a state ministry of the Federal State of Bremen (which consists of the two cities of Bremen and Bremerhaven), and some derive from it being part of the municipal administration of the city of Bremen.

The office is also responsible for associated organisations, such as Bremeninvest and BTZ Bremer Touristik-Zentrale / Gesellschaft für Marketing und Service mbH.
